In 1876 after the 7th Cavalry under George Armstrong Custer was wiped out by Sioux Indians, the big wigs in Washington was very thirsty for revenge and wanted to inflict great punishment against all the Indians. PRESIDENT Ulysses Grant gave the order for the soldiers to kill all the buffalo they could find. Soon the battle cry was "ONE DEAD BUFFALO - ONE DEAD INDIAN" .
This token medal was used on many of the army post.
