Description
This is an extremely early and rare bullet mold.I have only seen two of these molds for sale in all of my collecting years. The cavity of this mold measures .790. With the patch it would shoot from an 80 caliber musket. These large-bore bullet molds cast a bullet for what is called a wall gun which was used to shoot from a fortified wall or an early colonial fort that did not have protective cannons or small artillery. They started making these wall guns in the late 1600s. So, this bullet mold could have been used in the earliest colonial days including the French and Indian War in which the early British colonials fought the French with Native American Indians supporting each side.
The wall musket was also used later in the Revolutionary War to break advancing enemy forces. These wall guns measured from 80 caliber up to one-inch round ball. This mold has extremely good cavities, superb lead nippers, and a dark brown patina with some light, scattered pitting.
I have seen early wall guns that this mold would go with running from ,000 and up. This is an exceptionally rare and early piece of militaria history.
